Workshop: Parametric risk transfer in practice – applications, case studies and what’s next
Description

Parametric insurance has moved from an emerging concept to a practical risk-financing tool for complex construction and infrastructure projects, particularly where traditional indemnity solutions struggle with uncertainty, speed of payout or coverage gaps. This breakout session explores how parametric solutions are being used in real-world construction scenarios to address risks such as extreme weather, delay, geotechnical uncertainty, access disruption and climate volatility. Through high-level case studies, the session will examine where parametrics deliver the greatest value, how triggers are structured, how these solutions complement traditional insurance and captives, and what risk managers need to consider when deploying them across large project portfolios. Designed for an experienced audience, the discussion focuses less on “what parametric insurance is” and more on where it is going — how improved data, modelling and investor acceptance are expanding its use, and how sophisticated buyers can position parametrics as a strategic component of future-ready construction risk transfer programmes.
