Panel discussion: Managing megaproject risks in the Middle East – aligning insurance, resilience and delivery in an era of growth and geopolitical change
Description

The Middle East continues to deliver one of the world's most ambitious infrastructure programmes, with unprecedented investment across airports and logistics hubs, tourism and hospitality, water security, energy infrastructure, and major sporting and entertainment developments. As the region continues to navigate the recent regional geopolitical developments, project owners, developers, contractors and insurers are placing even greater emphasis on resilience, business continuity and strategic risk management. This panel will explore how insurance and risk financing are evolving to support the successful delivery of increasingly complex giga-projects, including Qiddiya, The Red Sea Project and Expo City Dubai, while examining the common challenges that cut across these transformational portfolios.

Discussion will consider how insurer risk appetite is changing in response to the scale of concurrent megaprojects, how underwriters are assessing regional risk exposures, the implications of complex joint venture structures, and the growing role of captives and alternative risk transfer solutions. Panellists will also discuss practical approaches to managing new operational technology risks, climate and ESG risks, cyber resilience, workforce and labour challenges, and the common causes of project delays and disputes, highlighting how organisations can strengthen resilience and align insurance strategies with successful project delivery in an increasingly dynamic regional environment
