Extreme weather events are placing increasing pressure on construction projects across the Middle East, where flash flooding, severe storms, extreme heat and other climate-related hazards are testing project resilience and insurance programmes. This session will examine how Contractors' All Risks (CAR) policies respond to weather-related losses, with particular focus on policy wordings, the interpretation of event severity, and the adequacy of mitigation and preventive measures implemented by project stakeholders. Through real-world claims case studies, delegates will explore the practical challenges of establishing causation, assessing contractor preparedness, managing delay and damage claims, and resolving disputes between insureds and insurers. The presentation will also consider how changing climate patterns, evolving underwriting expectations and improved resilience planning are influencing claims outcomes and what construction risk professionals can do to strengthen both project preparedness and recoverability following major weather events.
