Name
Workshop: Container losses, mis-declared cargo and nurdles – insurance lessons from the MV X-Press Pearl
Description

Using the loss of the MV X-Press Pearl off Sri Lanka as a case study, that has resulted in a claim of USD 1 Billion, this panel examines the insurance implications of mis-declared cargo and nurdle pollution.

Discussion will focus on how mis-declaration distorts underwriting and stowage risk, drives major losses and leads to complex claims across hull, cargo and liability covers. Panellists will also address aggregation, causation disputes, environmental liabilities and subrogation challenges.

The session will highlight practical measures to improve cargo transparency, strengthen underwriting and reduce exposure to these increasingly significant loss events.
