Name
Workshop: Crew welfare, liability exposure and impact on hull and P&I claims
Description

Human factors remain a critical but often under appreciated driver of marine losses and liability exposure. This workshop examines the relationship between crew welfare, fatigue, training and claims outcomes across both hull and P&I risks.

Drawing on real-world examples, speakers will explore how poor working conditions and operational pressures can lead not only to physical damage incidents but also to third-party liabilities including personal injury, crew claims, pollution events and regulatory breaches. The discussion will assess how these exposures translate into P&I claims and the broader implications for the International Group and club performance.

The session will also highlight practical steps shipowners and operators can take to improve crew welfare, strengthen compliance and reduce both the frequency and severity of claims—ultimately enhancing safety, resilience and insurability.
