Panel discussion: Captives in the UK – why, what, where, how and when?
Description
It is hoped that the new UK government will pick up the hard work already carried out by the London Market Group, Airmic and others to make it even more attractive to host an “onshore” captive in the UK following some of the UK’s European neighbours.
Meanwhile Lloyd’s has announced its first captive for many years and is keen to attract more. This session will explore the excellent work of organisations such as the London Market Group and Airmic in campaigning for regime change in the UK and why the UK might become an attractive proposition for captives.
Where exactly did the effort to introduce rule changes to make “onshore” captives in the UK feasible and attractive get to with the previous government?
This session will examine:
- How likely is it that the new government will pick up the baton and run with this? What needs to happen to make “onshore” UK captives feasible as in France and Italy?
- Would the introduction of a UK captive friendly regime represent competition with ‘offshore’ centres such as Guernsey, Isle of Man and Dublin and persuade many UK risk managers to redomicile their “offshore” captives?
- Why would a European captive manager set up a captive in the UK?
- How does having a captive close to home help with the construction and management of a global programme?
- Will the demand for captives persist as the market starts to soften?
- Why does it make sense to host a captive at Lloyd’s?
- What has Lloyd’s done to market itself and make this an attractive option?
- What kind of captives are best suited to Lloyd’s
- What was the ‘story’ with the new captive at Lloyd’s and what can be learned from this?
