Workshop: Beyond the shoreline – managing residual risk at marine construction interfaces
Description

Complex marine and offshore construction projects are, in practice, generally insurable. At the same time, these projects, and in particular the interfaces between onshore, offshore and marine activities, highlight that not all risks are fully transferable.

This breakout session does not focus on whether projects can be insured, but on the importance of having all relevant risks visible and explicitly understood, and what this means for what is and is not covered, and therefore remains with the asset owner.

The session explores risk visibility at interfaces, assumptions made early in projects, and the role of early involvement of risk and insurance in supporting both insurability and project control. Insurance is approached as a practical reality check on what is known and explicit, rather than as a substitute for governance or decision‑making. Designed for experienced practitioners, the breakout offers a high‑level reflection on how governance choices, early decision‑making and conscious risk acceptance shape both insurability and project resilience, and what risk and insurance leaders need to understand when navigating the next generation of complex marine and offshore projects.
